Betsey Johnson Archive Curated by Opening Ceremony

Coming this fall a serious 80's revival, marking the return of shoulder pads and early Madonna-esc outfits. Opening Ceremony and Betsey Johnson have teamed up to bring back some of Betsey Johnson's greatest hits from the early eighties. They even had the original fabrics replicated. Here are a few of my favorites.

Look for Less: Alexander McQueen Faithful Bootie

This Alexander McQueen Bootie (on left) retails for $1,155. They are gorgeous, but a little (make that A Lot) out of my price range right now. But leave it to Steve Madden to create a look-a-like that's well within my budget. Check out this very similar Seryna Bootie (on right) that goes for $129.

Where to Buy: Steve Madden, $129

Convertible boot, Victoria's Secret, $149

While flipping through the latest Victoria's Secret catalog, these boots by Colin Stuart caught my eye. I went in for a closer look and instantly thought, now why didn't I think of that? With such versatility, they might just be the ideal boots for transitioning from summer to fall or from winter to spring.

Transitional Threads

Have you noticed the sudden bite in the air? Yep. Looks like summer is officially over. Not that we had much to begin with, but hey, that's another show folks. Anyhoo, it got me to thinking about the dreaded 'in between seasons' syndrome: too cold for skin; too warm for woolies. Rather than bitching about what to wear, I thought I'd raid the aul wardrobe to find some solutions.

Exhibit A:
Bib-front denim dress, Awear €35.
Nicole Miller tweed jacket, Urban Outfitters €50
Vintage print scarf, Tie Rack €2.49
Vintage briefcase, Oxfam €6
Brogues, Office €72
Key chain and bracelet, gifts
Ring, H&M €5.90

Style notes: Wear with lace or ribbed tights. Feeling Chung? Try some Alexa-style ankle socks.

Ashish, Ashish, Ashish

I'm not even on Twitter, but having stalked Topshop on Twitter, I found out that the Ashish wedges I've been lusting after would become available Wednesday, so I kept an eye out for them this evening. Given that Topshop headquarters is eight hours ahead of PST I theorized that the wedges would become available sometime around midnight, assuming the Brits start their workday at 8am. Fortunately, my obsessiveness paid off around 11pm this evening (about an hour ago), as they were up on the site, along with footwear by Preen. Although the $290 price tag for the wedges is not proportionate to the £140 that the UK site is charging, I splurged on the zebra print. (If you do the math, then £140 would equal approximately $230 with the current exchange rate of 1.64.) Not sure why Topshop gouges Americans with an exchange rate of over 2.0, but I had to have these shoes!

Jolie Rouge - Indeed

Autumn - season of mist and mellow fruitfulness and sweet new products. Keats may be turning in his grave at my gratuitous use of poetic licence but I feel I'm rather justified. With siren red lips doing the rounds again, the curse of Krusty the Klown isn't very far away. You know, that dodgy shade of claret that makes you look like a deranged asylum escapee? Not pretty. Clarins however have a new shade of Jolie Rogue hitting the shelves in September. Keep an eye out for Red Terra; or 729 in beauty boffin speak. Not only does the warmer hue suit most skin types, it also looks glossy, boosts collagen and smells nice too. Let the kissing season begin. Mwah!

Jolie Rouge €20.09 @ stockists nationwide from September

Chubbies

Chubbies. They're everywhere. Pink and fluffy, black and hirsute; even ones with their arms cut off. I wanted one - badly. I had images of Bianca Jagger floating through my head - all louche and rock chick; and then I tried one on. Holy sweet buttering baby Jesus! Fashion fascism at its most cruel. I looked more like a lumbering yeti than a Studio 54 hipster. Clearly size matters when wearing a chubby. In other words you need to be skinny - the kind in need of ankle weights to stand upright. Ridiculous - yes. Bitter? Moi? Perhaps just a tad.

Julia Stiles Launches (Fake) Clothing Line

Julia Stiles pokes fun at celebrities creating eco-clothing lines with this hilarious video. My favorite is her fake creation called "Save the Last Shants" --a shirt that doubles as pants. Her inspiration for this was a homeless man she met that had taken his pants and worn it as a shirt. It's really funny...you have to watch it.
