As an avid reader of fashion magazines, I've come to develop a few favorites. British Elle is one such example. It was in an older issue of the magazine that I first read about a British retail site called My-Wardrobe. After a quick browse of the site, I was hooked. The part that really caught my attention? In addition to the easy-to-navigate site, the frequently updated blog, and the selection of designer pieces they sell, they also make short but engaging video clips. In this age of social networking, blogs, and short attention spans, savvy online retailers such as My-Wardrobe know that shoppers want to see more than just products on e-commerce sites. From personal experience, I can attest that online lookbooks, videos, and blogs will keep me on a retailer's website much longer than a site with product photos and descriptions only.
Although many of My-Wardrobe's products are out of my typical price point range, that didn't stop me from concocting two fantasy outfits from their on-trend offerings. The first look is something casual that would be perfect for watching my favorite band play at a small club.
In the second look, I've taken my favorite dress silhouette of the season - a strapless mini dress - and dressed it up for a Broadway-worthy look. The patent heels add sex appeal, while the House of Harlow 1960 jewelry and studded cardigan impart a ladylike glamour to the ensemble.
